HBO stage: Aerosol measurement setup development in Eindhoven

​Aerosol measurements are conducted on the engine oil separation system of crank gases. It is used to measure distribution levels of oil aerosol. Typically at supply from engine block and outlet of the oil separation system. This for development and verification of the engine crank case system mainly focused on the oil separator unit. The aerosol measurement system as currently used is nearing end of life. An ISO standard came available describing how to measure on an internal combustion aerosol.

Goal of this assignment is to review the current measurement system as currently used. Review deviations found when compared to an ISO standard that came available for these measurements. Plus investigate options for a new measurement system. Make a proposal for way forward. At deviations found where further investigation might be required it is asked to setup a testplan and conduct tests. Test on engine can then be done using the current system and possibly also using a new system to support the assignment. Finally a test standard is to be made for how to conduct oil aerosol measurements based on ISO standard.

The Engine Integration & Validation department is responsible for definition, integration, verification, and validation of engine and after treatment families towards performance requirements. The department is split into 8 groups and the Functional Testing group holds a vacancy for an internship or graduation project.
