Internship: Trucks Logistics & Projects and Support in Eindhoven

Problem definition
The engineering process never stops. Every 4 weeks there are new releases and updates. For all kind of triggers we do have an AsIs process description e.g. what do we need to do when a new market is added, or when a new option is released. However do all these activities fit in a 4 weekly schedule, such as: is the timing OK? Is there enough time to process or gather the information? Can we breakdown a task in smaller steps? Are there triggers earlier in time? How do we get specific worklists for each dataset?
The internship is about to help identify the issues by making the detailed timing schedules. Help to formulate the ToBe situation to overcome the miss fits and there where possible improve the quality and reduce the effort it takes to complete a task.

Assignment 
A greenbelt 6 sigma approach will be followed in optimizing the processes.

• Investigate which processes can be optimized indecently from the other process.
• Investigate where the bottle necks are in the current processes.
• Define alternatives.
• Implement the changes in the process.
• Validate the changed process.

• Get familiar with the TOPEC.
• Get familiar with the overall data process.
• Define the scope of the processes that are included in the review.
• Define the processes and their interdependencies.
• Define the improvement target.
• Define alternatives.
• Implement and test the alternatives

For this assignment we are looking for a WO level student of automotive, Industrial studies or equivalent

Afdeling

DAF Trucks N.V. is a 100% subsidiary of the American company PACCAR Inc., one of the world’s largest truck manufacturers.
DAF Trucks focuses on the development, production, marketing, sale and service of light, medium and heavy trucks. TOPEC is the sales tool of DAF to support the Truck sales and related services. Every 4 weeks a new dataset is created for all markets and all models. The information ranges from features/options being sold. The weight and dimensions of the Truck including the options, the prices of the Truck and it’s options, the related services and last but not least the data need for performance calculations. The performance calculation range from: what is the payload capacity, how good can the truck turn / manoeuvre, how stable is the truck and what is driveabilty and what is the fuel economy.
 
The department of Trucks Logistics; Projects and Support supports TOPEC. The TOPEC data team is a multidisciplinary team that is responsible for creating data, receiving data and processing data.
