Master graduation assignment at the Purchasing department of DAF Trucks Eindhoven.

Research Question

How can DAF Trucks improve its organization in order to buy, maintain and control Embedded Software in future product platforms as DAF Connect and ADAS systems:

• Domain: (1) budget versus (2) timing versus (3) content

• Supplier Selection Process: what level of information exchange ( requirements & specifications ) should be implemented during the supplier selection process?
• Contract Management: process versus output/performance orientation?
• How to Manage multi-tier supplier relationships in embedded software platforms?
• What Governance Models should be installed for New Product Development Embedded Software projects?
• New in-depth knowledge and an integrated view on the critical conditions, determinants and processes for effectively managing supplier involvement in embedded software projects in a commercial vehicle landscape

Jouw profiel

For this assignment we are looking for a Master of Science graduation student due to the complex and conceptual characteristics, with a background in supply chain management, strategy and/or business administration.

You are fluent in the English language, both verbal and written form.
 

Afdeling

DAF Trucks is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc. The DAF Trucks N.V. purchasing organization is part of PACCAR Corporate Purchasing and goes under the name of PACCAR Purchasing Europe. It is responsible for the delivery of goods and services to production units in Eindhoven and Westerlo (DAF Purchasing) and to Leyland (Leyland Purchasing). The PACCAR Purchasing Europe organization is subdivided into Product Projects, Production Purchasing, Non-Production Purchasing, Parts Purchasing and Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA).

DAF wants to give substance to "Strategic Supply Management" in an effective, proactive and interdisciplinary manner, in the following five areas: Quality, Logistics, Know-how, Competitive position and Competitive position Price. The supplier must have a favorable market position and financial position & the total costs within the value chain must be competitive.

The work at the Department of Purchasing takes place in an inspiring and challenging environment. Correctly managing relationships with our suppliers is essential for our continuing success as a truck manufacturer. The strategic necessity for cost reduction must in part be achieved via the purchasing process.

Department

Within the last decade, the rapid rate of technological changes and shortened product lifecycles have resulted in renewed focus of DAF Trucks on its New Product Development (NPD) process. Electrical and electronic systems and embedded software platforms will play an increasingly important role in the success of DAF reflected in new programs as Connectivity and Advanced Driving Assistance Systems ( ADAS ). Suppliers contribute significantly to the competitiveness of DAF and playing an increasingly important role within the New Product Development projects of Connectivity and ADAS systems. Embedded software leads to shifts in value creation and makes it necessary for DAF purchasing to critically reflect its current supply chain strategy in order to align hardware and software development.
