Simulations have been performed, patents are filed and prototype tooling is designed. In the next phase of this project we will focus on the assembly and tolerance of the individual components that are used to build this interconnect. And an improvement proposal of the existing tooling will be created. 

Within this project TE Connectivity (TE) will investigate if and how their optical connector technology can be extended to be suited for the use of visible and UV light. Currently the high-end connector technology for 405nm light has a loss of 1 dB. The focus in this project will be to investigate the options to increase the specification and to well control the mating force of the connection that induces stress and adds losses. Furthermore the connector technology should by capable of dealing with polarization maintaining fibers which are not supported by the current TE fiber optics connectors.

Key Tasks: 

- Perform adhesive selection to maintain the low loss nature of a fiber 

- Perform stress analyses 

- Validate results with test equipment 

- Build first prototype’s with polarisation maintaining fibers 

- Map the process and identify the key improvement area’s
